Regional contact group can address concerns about Afghanistan

TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (MNA) – The regional contact group and its agenda can address the concerns of Afghanistan’s neighbors, regional countries, and the international community about the war-torn country, Iran’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan said.

In a post on his X account, Hassan Kazemi-Qomi wrote that he had met with his Pakistani counterpart, foreign minister, and other officials of the neighboring country in line with Tehran’s regional efforts to help the people of Afghanistan.

“In these meetings, I emphasized that peace and stability in the region depend on peace and stability in Afghanistan, and what can help establish this peace are regional initiatives centered on Afghanistan’s neighbors,” he noted.

“In this framework, we agreed with the Pakistani authorities that Afghanistan’s neighboring countries will form the core of the regional contact group for Afghanistan and present a package of constructive proposals to the caretaker government of Afghanistan.”
